Aurasma
My web tool and APP is: Aurasma
My Eduaction and Training class is discovering new ways to bring about technology in the classroom. This is the APP I discovered. It is called Aurasma and it is an augmented reality APP that shows the students a new way to learn. Rather then the traditional 2D paper learning it brings pictures and words to life using nothing but a simple scan code.
Heres how it works: Aurasma app
The steps of Aurasma are very simple:
1. Download the Aurasma app to any IOS or Android device
2. open your Aurasma studio on your computer
3. Watch the image come to life as video content!
4. Double tap to view full screen or single tap to find out more
Establishing an Aurasma account is even easier:
1. you open Aurasma.com on your desktop of your computer
2. you download the Aurasma APP (available on any IOS or Android product)
3. Then you are free to enjoy augmented reality at your own discretion
Aurasma in the Classroom:
You might be wondering how to use this in your classroom that is if you have one. A way I might use this, seeing as i have third graders as my students, is by having them create there own Auras about people the Social Studies TEKS require them to learn about. As they watch there classmates interesting videos they will at the same time be learning all about the person in the video (people like Milton Hershey, Mary Kay Ash, Henry Ford, etc.). I could also use this APP as part of there Science experiment. Recently, my students each presented a short research project they each did on the Solar System as part of a major test grade this six weeks. If the students knew of Aurasma it would easily open up the opportunity for the students to use this to make there projects really come to life.

Fold it!
Last week in our Education and Training classroom we went over some different foldable patterns that can or would be used in your classroom. In Mrs.Kallas' newest blog she would like us to find a certain foldable to use in our field site classroom and create it ourselves.
I had a few ideas about this project but one stood out for me: PLACE VALUES! I know my students struggle with distinguishing between place values so what better foldable to do then one that helps with that? Come to find out this is a real TEK which means the students need to know it in order to advance to the fourth grade so, naturally, I can't just not teach them.
It will eventually look something like this:
The TEK is below:
TEKS: (111.5.2.A) Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to represent and compare whole numbers and understand relationships related to place value. The student is expected to compose and decompose numbers up to 100,000 as a sum of so many ten thousands, so many thousands, so many hundreds, so many tens, and so many ones using objects, pictorial models, and numbers, including expanded notation as appropriate;

My materials needed include:
- the students math spirals
- we will make four different "Taco Fold" foldables
- one "vocabulary book" foldable
- Colored pencils

In creating the foldable the students will:
- Write the title "The Basics of place value" on the top of their next available page in their Math Journal
- cut out "vocabulary book" foldable
- cut out four "taco fold" foldables
- fill out the already labeled flaps of the foldables upon teachers instruction
- color after finished with ALL above steps

Reasons this will eventually help the student:
- they will get to use it anytime they get stuck with their place values
- This will never be useless information to have
- THEY created it therefore THEY will remember it

Built for learning!
My ideal learning environment is probably when something is relevant to me or my life experiences and i am not limited to a time. I also learn very easily in preforming kinesthenically. Which means I learn the best by doing the activity being taught. Whether that be making up a dance, memorizing a song for the topic, or anything else that we think of.
