                               Built for learning!

My ideal learning environment is probably when something is relevant to me or my life experiences and i am not limited to a time. I also learn very easily in preforming kinesthenically. Which means I learn the best by doing the activity being taught. Whether that be making up a dance, memorizing a song for the topic, or anything else that we think of.

My ideal classroom would probably be set-up like:

                                                                    OR

                                                         I am Kinesthetic learner because:

Find the treasure in teaching!

I wanted to be a bigger part of TAFE region conference this year unfortunately I could not do so. What I decided to do was help Mrs.Kallas with running region.I had a very big "behind-the-scenes" part of Region so that is definitely a plus side.

Whether it was:

  • Taking pictures
  • Checking people into the ELF Test
  • Simply answering peoples question about the BCTAL
Over all I think I would have changed how involved i was but their are some things that cannot be controlled. I wish I would have done more than I did to advance to state.
I did create a super cool teacher created material as an alternate assignment due to not competing. It was a third grade math station activity to help them differentiate between standard, expanded, and word form in math problems. It was a little challenging because, I got the Teacher created material assignment approximately 3 days before it was due. Not exactly much time but it is nothing that a great Intern can't handle!

My first day as an intern

I am at Academy at Carrie Francis Thomas in third grade with Mrs.Thomas'. She has been teaching for 31 years. I was so ready to embark on my second wonderful year at this amazing school with such an inspirational woman like Kathy Thomas. excitedly entering this oh so familiar classroom with my folder in hand and a smile spread across my face wearing my, again oh so familiar, black polo intern shirt.

Totally at lose for words upon entering my classroom. I was looking forward to seeing and experience all of the new students from this year as oppose to the ones from last year. As the hours I was their went I on I started to love my classroom even more then I originally planned to. I am most excited about being able to teach a lot more than I did last year on account of me being a year two.A major difference between the experience this year and the experience last is that the learning level is completely different than last year because the students as a whole struggle a lot more than the previous year. Their a lot more learning disabilities present now then before. And the students do not have as much motivation as before. It will definitely a challenge but nothing is impossible. Especially with Mrs.Thomas

                                   What do teachers make?

In reference to Mrs.Kallas blog about "what do teachers make" I think if i was presented with the question "what do teachers make?" I would react similar to the way the guy in the video did. Why question what value of money I make when that is not what I am focused on? Exactly you shouldn't but unfortunately people do. I would probably assure the person the how much I make is not as important as how many lives I impact on a daily basis

What do teachers make:
  • An impact
  • A difference
  • everlasting relationships that the students will remember forever

I am only interested in participating in one competition this year and it is Exploring careers in education innovation competition and I am very excited to participate in the above competition.

Here's where I found the treasure in teaching

In reference to Mrs.kallas' blog
Here is why you should value a teacher:

"to the world your just a teacher but to your students you are a hero!"

In reference to Ms.kallas' blog about the ted talk conference over 'What will you do to create change'. Throughout my past 10 years of my education the three that night resonant the most with me would most likely be voice, oppurtunity for innovation, and self assessment.
Voice- because I feel that the "think-share-pair" method of teaching or learning, rather, is quite affective if I can say from prior experience. I think this would be benefical in my classroom because in seeing how my students 'teach' each other I can use it as a self eveluation as well as a student evaluation.
Oppurtunity for innovation- becuase whoever said change was a and thing? Exactly. This will be benefical to my future classroom because my students will be able to connect what it is I am teaching to there own innovations and experiences.
Self-Assessment- because I thinl it is importnat for you and your teaher both to be aware of what it is your are doing wrong or maybe even right. This will be benefical in my future classroom becuase it will give my students almost a sense of belonging which is what I strive to accomplish anyways. In school, no one ever told me that I could do it myself so I want to be able to do that in at least one students life in my teaching career.

Unfortunately all of these 'things to look for in a classroom' will not come easily. i think a few of the things to look for that I will struggle with would most likely be connected learning, time for reflection, and problem solvers/finders.
Connected learning- becuase I have would have a problem with remembering that my students don't know or recollect as much as I do. I woudl forget that I know more than that fo a 11 to 12 year old child .
Time for reflection- becuase I don't thnk writing about what happened is very benefical to me however I will msot likely have a few students that would disagree with that statement.
Problems solvers/Finders- again like I said prior to this I do believe that I would forget that they 'do not know what I know'. It like an olympics swimmer telling a new born baby to jump in the twelve foot deep pool.  They have been swimming majority of there life so they think that everyone 'knows what they know' when in reality taht is not the case at all.

In reference to Mrs.Kallas' blog over the Nontraditional Forms of Assesment on the GO teach website I learned that the word "assessment" brings anxiety to majurity of people. Becuase when you hear the word assessment your mind leads to test meaning pen and paper 'writing' test. However, that is not the case at all. There are many different types of assessment besides pen and paper written test which I did not realize before.

In the article, the form of assesssment I enjoyed the most is probably 'Gallery Walk' because I feel like that is how I grasp the most information when learning and I also think that it would be benefical to my students in my classroom as well.
I think the mosts effective way to assess my students from the five listed on Edutopia would be Kahoot. Kahoot is where students use some sort of technology to paly a quiz game, created by the teacher, which evaluates the students progress with the current lesson. In this, the teacher as well as the students can see how much development has taken place. I hope you liked what you Chel-SEA. Stay tuned for more.

                                       Did I Measure up?

1. Yes because she thinks more of me then I think of myself.

2.I'm a "lifer". Meaning a person who spends there whole life in a particular career.

3.I want to work more efficient!!! I will meet all class deadlines.

I definately did not expect the evaluation I recieve from my mentor
